Co-located with the 26th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE 2026), June 9-12, 2026, Lyon, France.
Edge clouds are emerging as a pivotal computing infrastructure, especially with the advancements in communication technologies like 5G and Web of Things (WoT) infrastructures. They play a significant role in collecting and processing big data efficiently, particularly in smart cities and smart factories. In such environments, the provision of real-time Web services for various data types becomes imperative. Additionally, the creation of a dependable framework for developing big data service applications is crucial. The upcoming sixth edition of the BECS workshop aims to offer a platform for scholars and practitioners to exchange experiences and present ongoing work on delivering enhanced Web services by leveraging big data in edge cloud environments.

Prof. Michael Mrissa, InnoRenew CoE, University of Primorska, Slovenia
This talk describes research work developed in the context of the LETSGROW project, that supports research excellence through a fine-tuned research mobility program between academic and non-academic institutions. In this lecture, we explore to what extent edge computing can support privacy-by-design, low-cost, sensor-based solutions for soil monitoring in community gardens and home gardens. We give an overview of the related work in the field, and propose a suitable framework to address the need for data privacy while remaining low-cost and flexible enough to address different types of contexts. Our methodology bridges the gap between soil management techniques and the digital world to create a data-driven feedback loop on the network edge, to enable soil monitoring in the context of community gardens or home gardens.
Dr. Michael Mrissa is a Full Professor of Computer Science and Informatics at the University of Primorska, Slovenia, where he serves as the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation. He is also a researcher at the InnoRenew CoE and a member of the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies. He received his PhD in 2007 from the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, France. His research focuses on service-oriented solutions and semantic reasoning for interoperability and privacy issues in multiple domains, mostly related to distributed Web of Things (WoT) applications.

Authors are invited to submit full papers (maximum length of 12 pages, including all references and figures) or short/demo papers (maximum length of 6 pages, including all references and figures). Papers should be formatted according to Springer’s LNCS formatting guidelines.
All papers should be submitted through the EasyChair platform.
Accepted papers will be included in the post-workshop proceedings to appear in Springer's CCIS series. For each accepted paper, at least one author must attend the workshop and present the paper. Registration is subject to the terms and conditions of ICWE.
Selected high-quality submissions will be invited to submit an extended version of their paper to a special issue of the Journal of Web Engineering (indexed in SCIE and Scopus).
